Which means new years resolutions start all over again! This year, instead of resolutions (which I find to all dissipate by march anyways), I am simply going to try and follow some simple personal rules that will help me save money, stay healthy, and enjoy the beautiful earth we have! Here a few of my personal rules for 2010- may they help you maintain a gorgeously green lifestyle as well!!

1. Shop locally at the farmers market whenever possible! This guarantees better freshness, lower prices and the support of local farmers. Plus, I LOVE getting out of the office or house to spend some quality time with Jack perusing the fresh fruit, blooming flowers and gorgeous vegetables. Remember to bring your own grocery bags if you can!

2. Work out outdoors! I have belonged to a gym for as long as I can remember, but recently I decided to try and exercise without the monthly dues. I have fallen in love with running- and now my son Jack cant wait to be outside in his stroller with me. Use a park bench, stairs or even a high curb to get some but tightening steps in. Lay a blanket down at the park or beach and do some much needed stretching while your little plays next to you. Walk with friends. Walk to town. Walk anywhere and everywhere you cant drive! Now I realize that not all regions of the US have 70 degree weather like we do here in Manhattan Beach, so if you are experiencing cold or rain or snow that simply cannot be conducive to an outdoor workout- hit the local mall for some walking with other moms, turn up the radio in the house and simply rock out (this is one of the best work outs ever and will help release a ton of tension and stress and make you feel young again) and always always take the stairs when possible!

3. When your home needs a face lift- hit the flea market or eBay instead of Pottery Barn or Macy’s. I am a huge fan of making old things new again…the ULTIMATE recycling if you ask me! Look for vintage fabric to cover old pillows (new colors or patterns can completely change the vibe in a room), seek out eclectic light fixtures that can create ambiance and mood in any room or hallway and hunt for unique pieces of furniture that can be repainted (with non toxic paint of course) or used as is to add flare and personality to your home.
